Savings Tips for Summer Part 1

Summertime is quickly approaching and I am already making plans for my family and for outings I am hoping to be able to do with them. As this summer will still look different than those of years past, I’m going to share with you some tips for saving money this summer and still making great memories!

#1: Trim your entertainment budget. While this category may be small in your budget currently, with everything being closed, as things reopen keep your budget small. Go to free concerts or movies in the park. Our local theater has $5 movies all day on Sundays! Also, many museums will have a free day each month or discounted days. You can also rent movies for cheap (or free) from the library!

#2: Skip the theme parks and go to an outdoor park (or the beach) instead. A day at Disneyland for a family of 4 can be $400 just in tickets! Knott’s Berry Farm extended their passes into 2022, so if you already had a pass you have free fun. Pack a lunch and you’re all set for the day!

#3: Earn $$ by having a garage sale. Or do what I do and post all your stuff on Craigslist or FB Marketplace. It feels good to get rid of stuff in your home you’re not using and to make some extra cash.

#4: Skip the carwash. Skipping the carwash can save you $60-100 this summer. With the beautiful summer weather, wash your car yourself (or with your kids). It will be a fun way to cool off on a hot day and you’ll save money. What kid doesn’t love playing in the hose?!?!?

#5: Save nearly 20% on energy bills by caulking windows and doors. I’m not paying to air condition the whole outside! Make sure your door and windows are not allowing cold air out and hot air in. If you can’t seal them, you can always buy those sock things to put by your doors to block the air flow.
