Time Management Part 2

Continuing on our topic of Time Management...here are more tips for improving your life.

#4: Schedule your priorities. Once you know what (and who) are most important to you, make sure they are on your calendar first. If something is important to you, it needs to be on your calendar or else it won’t happen. Stick to your commitments, whether to yourself or to others.

#5: Identify your time traps. I can lose hours watching stupid videos on Facebook… like literal hours. Yours may be chatting with co-workers and losing track of time. Identify how you lose time and be on guard against it.

#6: Practice saying no. Say no to things that steal your time. When Nathan was in college, he said yes to everyone and was always behind. One of our professors made him wear a post-it for the day that just said no. Every time someone asked him to do something, he just had to point at the post-it. Saying no allows you to free up time for your priorities.

#7: Make room for rest. Rest is underestimated and needs to be a crucial part of our lives. And you can’t say you’ll rest when everything is done, because it will never all be done. Set a time each day when you’re done with tasks and you can just rest… whatever rest is for you.

#8: Focus on one task at a time. Multi-tasking is a myth. Even those of us that think we’re good at it aren’t able to give more than one thing our full attention. If you try to do too many things at once, you just end up doing many things poorly.
